Workplace safety has always been a priority for companies and workers. However, despite technological advances, many everyday situations continue to present significant risks. A clear example is represented by falls from low heights, often underestimated but among the main causes of injury. In this context, three engineers from Varese have developed an innovative solution: a vest equipped with an airbag and artificial intelligence, designed to protect workers from such accidents. The idea for this device was born from the direct experience of Davide De Gregorio, one of the founders of Protechto, who witnessed a serious accident on an oil and gas construction site abroad. This event prompted him and his colleagues, Attilio Manni and Mattia Giaretta, to develop a device that could prevent the consequences of these falls, which are often underestimated but represent a major cause of workplace accidents. The jacket, called MAD (Man Autosafe Device), is a category two Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), certified for high visibility and compliant with safety regulations. It is designed to protect different parts of the body in the event of a fall: head, back, coccyx, chest and ribs. The airbag bag, made with the same technology used in diving jackets, is designed to withstand strong pressure and ensure optimal protection in the event of an impact. The real innovation lies in the integration of artificial intelligence. Thanks to the collaboration with the University of Verona, the jacket is able to constantly learn and improve its performance, ensuring an ever-higher level of reliability. Furthermore, it is able to detect a fall and activate the airbag in just 250 milliseconds, protecting the worker from possible trauma. Protechto has also developed a dedicated app that allows you to monitor the status of the vest, check the battery charge and receive firmware updates. If the airbag is activated, the app automatically sends an alarm message with the worker’s location to three preset numbers, allowing for rapid rescue intervention. This system is especially useful for workers who operate alone or in environments that are difficult to monitor. With the MAD, Protechto aims to revolutionize the world of workplace safety, offering an innovative and high-performance device that protects workers from an often underestimated risk that can have very serious consequences. The official launch of the product is scheduled for May 9th in Milan, and the company is targeting a broad market, from construction workers to gardeners, electricians and anyone at risk of falls.
